“The Last Judgement” is a biblical scene painted on the exterior of the Voronet Monastery. This particular piece was added 1547. Painted in fresco by an unknown group of artists, they used an intense and vibrant shade of blue known as “voronet blue”. The monastery is located in Bucovina in Northeastern Romania among a group of 7 other monasteries. The Voronet Monastery was built in 1487 by Stephen the Great as commemoration to hermit Daniil for encouraging him to defeat the Turks. The wall this fresco is painted on is 25.50 metres by 7.70 metres. The composition of the paint used remains a mystery to this day, 500 years later.
