This amulet is of the Ba Bird, and was from 3rd century BC (early ptolemaic). The Ba, was one of the five components that made up the human soul. The Ba was the persons personality, and the deceased Ba was supposed to continue after the person died. The amulet was to be worn around the neck to ward off evil. This particular amulet was found in Egypt and currently resides in the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore.The amulet is gold with a stone inlay its dimensions are 2.6 cm x 5.98. It has the head of a human, with an animal body, a loop in the front for it to be hung off of, and large wings.
